Gears & Levers
Gears and levers are among the most common and illustrative simple machines. With CPO's Gears & Levers, principles such as mechanical advantage, torque, and rotating motion are easily illustrated with practical hands-on examples. Ratios, angles, and the geometry of the circle become "real" to your students as they deduce the rules for how the machines they build work. Each hardwood gear has easy-to-read graphics that make degree readings a snap. The gears have three diameters: 10, 20, and 30 cm (12, 24, and 36 teeth). Each 65 cm-long lever has 6 positions to which weights can be secured. The levers can also be attached to the gears for greater machine building capability.
