Introduction to Earth and Space Science contains three earth and space science units (Energy in the Earth System, Earth Science, and Astronomy). Recurring themes throughout this edition include: energy, forces, systems, and properties of matter. Developing powers of observation, using data interpretation, and modeling phenomena are emphasized. Through hands-on investigations and readings, students learn about topics such as water, water chemistry (and its importance on Earth), oceans and their effect on climates and the atmosphere, physical properties of heat transfer, thermal structure, wind currents, ocean currents, erosion, plate tectonics, human impact on the land, Earth's position in space, physical properties of planets, mathematical models, stars, and solar energy.
